Thornridge Biodiesel Team visits Mother McAuley High School

Members of the Thornridge Biodiesel team visited Mother McAuley High School to speak about their biodiesel project and make students more environmentally aware. The Thornridge Biodiesel (TRB) club held three presentations to over 5 classes of students. The TRB students used a PowerPoint presentation to explain their project and what they have been doing. The students explained that goals of the project are recycling, raising environmental awareness, and community involvement. They explained that they accomplished this by having a community wide and school wide oil drive, producing an environmentally friendly alternative fuel for our district, recycling used vegetable oil, and educating ourselves and our community about the impact of diesel emissions on global warming, climate change, and renewable energy. After the PowerPoint, the TRB students accepted questions from students at Mother McAuley. Then the TRB team members broke the classes into 4 groups and demonstrated how to make biodiesel in a 2 liter pop bottle. All the students had a good time and they exchanged ideas and comments on how to make the world a little greener.
