It is never too late to have a brick or stone inscribed in Catherine's Garden.  Our hope is that our alumnae, parents, and friends will continue to dedicate bricks for years to come.  McAuley will schedule installations at least twice a year.  The proceeds from brick donations benefit three important projects:  Financial Aid; The Learning Resource Program; and Faculty/Staff Pensions.

The Catherine's Garden Project is part of our celebration of 160 years of Mercy education in Chicago and 50 years as Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School. This landscape renovation will include two brick gardens, brick and granite paths, beautiful plantings, lighting, and seating. Our hope for this project is three-fold:
  • To strengthen our Mercy and Catholic identity;
  • To create a welcoming outdoor space for prayer and contemplation for our students and community.
  • To raise funds for student programs through a variety of named dedication opportunities.

We ask you to become a Garden Angel and help us with this important renovation by selecting one of the dedication opportunities.

BRICKS & SEATING CAPSTONES

Brick by brick, students, parents, faculty and staff are joining together to beautify Mother McAuley High School. For $125, $250, or $500 you can create a commemorative brick or seating stone in McAuley ís new Catherine's Garden. Bricks can be placed in the Carmella A. Witt Garden or the Mercy Circle. This is your chance to leave a permanent mark on Mother McAuley. Proceeds from brick donations will benefit a variety of projects including Financial Aid, the Learning Resource Program, and Faculty Pensions.

Bricks are available in three sizes. The Standard Brick for $125 is 7 x 8 and may be engraved with three lines of text, 12 characters per line. The Large Brick for $250 is 8 x14 and may be engraved with five lines of text, 16 characters per line.

The Seating Stone for $500 is 14 x 8 and may be engraved with three lines of text, 16 characters per line. Large Brick and Seating Stone inscriptions may include a symbol. The symbols take up two lines of text, three spaces per line. Available symbols include: cross, heart, sport symbols, shamrock, wedding bells, musical notes, and dramatic arts.

TREES & LAMPPOSTS

For a $1,000 donation individuals and families can dedicate an existing or newly planted tree. The ten decorative lamp posts can be dedicated for a $5,000 donation. We will place a bronze sign at the base of the tree or lamp post. The text and design can be customized for each donation.

NAMED INDIVIDUAL GARDEN SPACES

There are a number of special areas within Catherine's Garden that can be named in tribute to or in memory of an individual or family. In recognition of our foundress we are placing large, rough hewn boulders inscribed with meaningful quotations by Catherine McAuley. Recognition will be tailored to the donor's request. Therefore, as our students and visitors walk through Catherine's Garden, they will be reminded of her living mission at Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School. These boulders will also be inscribed with the names of donors who contribute more than $25,000 to the project. Additional recognition for these donations will be customized for each donor.
