New for 2011/2012: Bigane Family Scholarship

The Bigane Family Scholarship was established by five McAuley alumnae, Anne Bigane Wilson, ’76, Katherine Bigane Larson, ’78, Sheila Bigane Bauschelt, ’79, Meg Bigane, ’82, and Julie Bigane Pollard, ’84 in loving memory of their mother, Mrs. Edward J. Bigane. 

The Bigane Family Scholarship will provide financial assistance to senior students of Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School.  The scholarship funds will be used for emergency financial assistance for senior students in good standing, and may be applied to tuition, fees, and/or textbooks.

The Mother McAuley High School Financial Aid Committee will review financial assistance requests from the families of senior students and determine the recipient(s) using the criteria outlined above. 

New for 2011: Faculty / Staff Scholarship
The Mother McAuley High School Faculty/Staff Scholarship is made possible through the generous donations of McAuley faculty and staff. Four $500 tuition scholarships will be awarded (one per level).

Application information will be posted on Edline as the scholarships become available.
New for 2011: Elizabeth Geoghegan O'Leary Memorial Scholarship

The Elizabeth Geoghengan O'Leary Memorial Scholarship.PDF

Mr. Patrick O’Leary, along with other family members, established the
Elizabeth Geoghegan O’Leary Scholarship in loving memory of his late
wife Elizabeth Geoghegan O’Leary, class of 1975, who succumbed to
breast cancer in September 2001. The Scholarship is intended for the
sole purpose of providing financial aid to a senior McAuley student with
an interest in Global Health and/or Women’s Health Issues, as Elizabeth
was a strong supporter of these concerns.

The $1000 tuition scholarship is available to students entering their
senior year and will be awarded in September as a tribute to Elizabeth.
The student applicant should be one who is striving for academic
excellence and personal growth and meet the following criteria:

          • Excellent academic standing, with a cumulative grade point
average of 3.5 or greater.
          • Financial need as demonstrated by submission of the 2011-2012
Private School Aid Service (PSAS) application.
          • Good standing with regard to behavior and school attendance.
          • Submission of an application essay of no more than 300 words.

Applications available on Edline or in the Financial Aid office beginning
August 30th.

New for 2011: St. Therese, the Little Flower Scholarship (available in February)

The St. Therese, the Little Flower Scholarship is a $2500 tuition scholarship available to current McAuley students of all levels. Four scholarships will be
awarded. The scholarship was established by the family of McAuley alumnae in
order to support current students in their pursuit of a Mother McAuley High
School education.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Demonstrated financial need through the submission of the 2010-2011
Private School Aid Service (PSAS) application.
2. Students must be in good standing both academically and behaviorally.
3. Submission of an essay of no more than 300 words describing the
student’s commitment to service and education.

APPLICATIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE IN FEBRUARY. SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN MARCH.

New for 2011: Hank and Virginia Murphy Award (for senior year only)

The Hank and Virginia Murphy Award will provide an annual scholarship of $500 to one current Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School student.

Applications for the scholarship will be available in January, 2011, with the scholarship awarded in April, 2011.  Subsequent years will follow the same general timeline:  application available in January and awarded in March.  Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. The student’s family must demonstrate a financial need by the submission of the Private School Aid Service Application (PSAS).
  2. The scholarship will be awarded to one student the first year, one or more students the subsequent years depending upon growth of Scholarship Fund.  The Award will be given to a student (s) based upon financial need and an essay application which describes their commitment to education, a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.7 and excellence in academics and behavior.

Financial Aid Opportunities for Incoming Freshmen

Financial Aid For Incoming Freshmen.PDF

Financial aid information and a Private School Aid Service (PSAS) application for the incoming class of 2016 will be included in the student’s acceptance packet and mailed out in mid-February.

Applications for financial aid (PSAS forms) and other applications for the 2012-2013 school year will be available on McAuley’s web site in mid-January.  Currently enrolled students receiving financial aid will receive 2012-2013 PSAS applications by mail in mid-January.

The PSAS application is to be completed and returned with the required documentation and the $23 processing fee directly to Private School Aid Service for evaluation no later than March 12, 2012. 

Tuition assistance awards are based upon the financial needs of the family.  Priority consideration is given to families who return their completed application to PSAS by the March 12, 2012 deadline. 

In 2011-2012, Mother McAuley High School awarded more than $900,000 to students based upon need.  The largest tuition assistance award for the 11-12 school year is $3,000.




Sr. Mary Brian Costello

This scholarship is named in honor of Sr. Mary Brian Costello, RSM, former English teacher, curriculum director, and principal of Mother McAuley High School. The scholarship covers complete tuition for the senior year at McAuley.

Scholarship criteria:
1. Student must be a senior at McAuley.

2. Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.49 or higher.

3. Student must personify all-around personal development in academic accomplishment, leadership traits, personality, courtesy, dependability, and Christian love.

Applications are available in March of the student’s senior year.


Maggie Guilfoyle Memorial Award

Maggie Guilfoyle was a member of the Class of 2007. She died tragically on
March 11, 2006, during her junior year at McAuley. In her memory, the Class of
2007, spearheaded by the National Honor Society, has funded a permanently
endowed scholarship.

We remember Maggie with a smile on our faces. She was so full of life and
demonstrated the ultimate spirit for the Mother McAuley High School community
as a cheerleader, a fun-loving friend, and an upbeat student. Her spirit touched
so many people in such a special way; this scholarship will help that spirit to live
on.

The scholarship award is a $1000 tuition credit granted each year to a senior
student. Any senior who has achieved a minimum 7th semester GPA of 2.5 is
eligible to apply.

Maggie Guilfoyle Cheerleading Award

Maggie Guilfoyle Tuition Scholarship

Award Amount: $500 tuition scholarship
Criteria: Current Mother McAuley student at any level who is also a high school cheerleader.  Financial need as demonstrated by the submission of the PSAS application.

Margaret M. Haran Scholarship

Dr. and Mrs. Michael Jennings, along with their daughters, established the Margaret M. Haran Scholarship in loving memory of their aunt Margaret “Marg” Haran. The Scholarship is intended for the sole purpose of encouraging students who struggle academically. Marg loved to read; she was a reading specialist who believed that every child is gifted and that reading was the key to discovering those gifts.

This $500 scholarship is available to students of all grades. In order to be considered for this
scholarship, a student must demonstrate financial need and have no failing grades at the time of application. The student should be one who is striving for academic growth with the assistance of McAuley faculty and staff (i.e. taken advantage of the Learning Resource Program/Center). Each student will apply through a written essay focusing on her personal story of how faculty and staff have facilitated her academic and personal growth

Students applying are asked to write an essay answering the question below and submit it to Office of Financial Aid. Essays must be 250 words or less, type-written in 12-point font, double spaced. Essays longer than 250 words will not be considered. Please be sure to include the following information with the essay: student’s name, grade and homeroom and parent or guardian’s name.

Essay question: How have you been helped to grow academically through the assistance of the Mother McAuley faculty and staff (i.e. Learning Resource Program/Center, tutoring, etc.)?

The Irish Fellowship Educational & Cultural Foundation Scholarship

Two $1000 tuition scholarships will be awarded. These scholarships are made possible by a donation from the Irish Fellowship Educational and Cultural Foundation.

Scholarship criteria:
• Student must be a McAuley freshman or sophomore in good standing

• At least two of the student’s great-grandparents must have been born in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland

• Student must complete the scholarship application and a brief essay

Eileen Kramer Scholarship

These need-based scholarships are sponsored by the Eileen Kramer Foundation.
Eileen died suddenly in March of 2001. She was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. Eileen attended Queen of Martyrs Elementary School and Mother McAuley High School. She felt strongly that her Catholic education and strong family ties were instrumental in developing her personality.

The Eileen Kramer Foundation’s goal is to provide students with the opportunity
to experience life as Eileen did. Through these scholarships, Eileen’s memory will live on and “we can give back to the community that was an influential force in Eileen’s life”.

Scholarships are generally awarded in late fall. The student must have demonstrated financial need based upon the assessment of the Private School Aid Service application.


Legacy Scholarship / New for Incoming Freshman Class of 2015

Mother McAuley High School is proud to announce the creation of a NEW scholarship for incoming freshmen.

Beginning with the class of 2015, all daughters of Mother McAuley High School alumnae will automatically receive a $500 non-renewable tuition scholarship.

Student must test at McAuley in order to be eligible to receive this scholarship.

John and Mary Catherine Melone Memorial Award

In memory of her parents who sacrificed greatly to provide four daughters with a Catholic high school education, Dr. Christine M. Melone wishes to offer two $1,000 scholarships toward second semester tuition.  Students of all levels are invited to apply.  Financial need must be demonstrated to receive this award.

If you wish to be considered for this award, complete an application and forward it Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School’s Financial Aid Office. Applications are available on Edline or from the Admissions/Financial Aid Office (2nd floor annex) in November.

Jan Malloy Scholarship for Spirit and Community Involvement

Jan Malloy was an integral part of the Mother McAuley family. She served as the
Alumnae Coordinator for eight years and was a true Mighty Mac. Jan was often seen at games cheering on the athletic teams, greeting families at open house or welcoming alumnae back for a reunion. Her love for McAuley was evident in each task. In September 2009, Jan passed away after a long illness and we miss her spirit, laughter, and energy.

Jan was instrumental in creating several scholarships to help students receive a quality education in the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy. These scholarships honor or
memorialize loved ones in the McAuley community. With that in mind Jenny Costello
Fortner ‘94, and her husband P. Jay Fortner, have established the Jan Malloy
Scholarship for Spirit and McAuley Community Involvement
. This scholarship will be
given to a current sophomore or junior who demonstrates the McAuley spirit and is
actively involved in the McAuley community.

In order to be considered for this scholarship, a student must demonstrate financial
need and be in good standing both academically and behaviorally. Students applying are asked to interview an assigned Mother McAuley alumnae to whom they are not related and write an essay answering the questions below. Essays must be 150 to 250 words, type-written in 12-point font, double spaced. Essays longer than 250 words will not be considered. The form below should be signed by the student, her parent/guardian and her dean and attached to the front of the essay.

Questions to be addressed in your essay: Whom did you interview? How did her
experience at Mother McAuley influence her life? How do you personally demonstrate
your spirit and McAuley community involvement? In which co-curricular activities are
you involved?

Alex Meneses Scholarship

The Alex Meneses Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2005 by actress Alex Meneses and her husband, Mr. John Simpson, to provide tuition assistance to students attending Mother McAuley High School. Ms. Meneses is a McAuley alumna from the class of 1985, who has gone on to become a successful actress in both television and film. You may remember her in her recurring role on the TV series Everybody Loves Raymond as the Italian “gelato girl” Stefania. Ms. Meneses is also a board member for several organizations, including The Children’s Hospital of Los
Angeles and The Chicago Symphony.

Recipients of this scholarship assistance must demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Private School Aid Service application.

Susan Morrissey Memorial Award for Service

ATTENTION FRESHMEN
Susan Morrissey was a 1986 graduate of Mother McAuley.  Susan’s commitment to live out her Christian life led her to take a leadership role as an officer in McAuley’s premier service group, Action/Reaction.  She organized her fellow students to seek creative ways to address needs and serve others.  In 1997, Susan died suddenly as a result of a car accident.  Susan’s family has established the Susan Morrissey Memorial Award for Service in Susan’s memory to encourage young women to step outside of themselves and make a difference by serving the needs of their school, church, and community.  The award will be a $750 scholarship applicable toward tuition.
Current freshmen may apply for this award.  Applications are available via Edline or in the Financial Aid Office (2nd floor counseling wing).

Katherine Patrick (O'Toole) Scholarship

Established in 1989 by Mrs. Barbara Patrick O’Toole, the purpose of this endowed scholarship is to assist with tuition for a minority student through all four years of that student’s attendance at Mother McAuley High School. The amount of assistance will be based upon the interest from the endowment.

The recipient of the scholarship is selected must demonstrate significant financial need as determined by the Private School Aid Service application and is selected by Mother McAuley High School.

The next recipient will be determined in the 2012-2013 school year.
Principal Scholarship 2012

Six (6) $1000 non-renewable scholarships are available for incoming
first year students who have been recognized for their leadership skills
and service to their school, church, and community.

Applicants must submit an essay using the prompt below. In addition,
each applicant must submit two (2) letters of recommendation: one
from her elementary school principal, and one from an individual who
can comment on the applicant’s leadership skills and service. The two
letters of recommendation must be attached to this application. All
materials should be submitted together.

Sr. Corinne Raven Scholarship for Service

Sponsored by the Mother McAuley High School Mother’s club, this $1,500 tuition
scholarship is given annually to a ninth, tenth, or eleventh grade student of Mother McAuley High School. The scholarship is named for Sr. Corinne Raven, RSM, who served McAuley students as principal from 1987-1997 and as curriculum director from 1978-1987 while also teaching an English class.

The focus of the scholarship is SERVICE in the tradition of Catherine McAuley, the founder of the Sisters of Mercy.

To qualify for this scholarship:

1. The student’s mother must be a member of the Mother McAuley High School Mother’s Club.

2. Student must submit an essay explaining how the service tradition of Catherine McAuley shows itself in your life.

Applications are available in April. The scholarship recipient will be announced at the Honors Assembly in May.
Sheffieck Family Scholarship

The Sheffieck Family Scholarship is a $3000 tuition scholarship available to current freshmen students to assist with sophomore year tuition. Six scholarships are awarded each year.

In order to qualify for this scholarship, the student must meet the following
criteria:


1. The applicant must be a current first year student at McAuley.

2. The applicant must have at least one parent/guardian who is a member of the Mother’s Club or Father’s Club.

3. The applicant must demonstrate financial need through the submission of the Private School Aid Service application.

4. The applicant must participate in at least one extra-curricular activity at McAuley.

5. The applicant must be in good standing.

The Director of Financial Aid will evaluate the applications and will consult with the freshmen dean to select the award recipients.

Applications are available in March.
Mary Kay Thibeau Scholarship

The Mary Kay Thibeau Scholarship was established in 2005 by the family of Mary Kay Thibeau, an alumna of Mother McAuley High School.

Mary Kay graduated from Mother McAuley High School in 1970. She married, raised a family, and worked as a social worker in Minnesota for many years. In January of 2004, she died of ovarian cancer. Mary Kay was a wonderful and loyal member of the McAuley community. Her family and friends, wishing to honor her memory, have established a scholarship fund for Mother McAuley students named in Mary Kay’s honor. A luncheon is held annually to raise funds for the scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded to one or more junior students who demonstrate financial need as determined by the Private School Aid Service application. The student must also be in good standing.

Awards are determined by the McAuley Financial Aid Office and are generally dispersed in the spring.
John V. and Mary Anne Robinson Scholarship

The John V. and Mary Anne Robinson Scholarship was established in 2008 by Mrs. Frances L. Robinson, a McAuley alumna, in honor of her parents, who sent five daughters to Mother McAuley High School.

Two $5000 tuition scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen and are renewable for up to four years.

Students must meet the following criteria:
1. Student must have a 2.5 GPA or better.

2. Student should maintain a good disciplinary record and be approved by her level dean.

3. Student must demonstrate financial need.

The next awards will be determined in the fall of 2012.


VLS Memorial Award

The VLS Memorial Award was established in 2008 by a Mother McAuley High School alumna in honor of her mother, who was tragically killed in a car accident.
The award is a $1000 tuition scholarship.

The recipient must meet the following criteria:

1. The student must be a current junior.

2. The student must be the daughter of a single, divorced, or widowed mother.

3. The student must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.

4. The student must demonstrate financial need as determined by the submission of a Private School Aid Service application.

The scholarship will be renewable for the student’s senior year, if financial need
is still a factor and as long as the student maintains a 3.0 GPA.

The recipient is determined by the McAuley Financial Aid Office, and is notified in spring of the student’s junior year.
Betty and Therese Windham Science Scholarship

The Betty & Sr. Therese Windham Science Scholarship was established in 2003
to provide financial assistance to specifically identified science students.

The recipient(s) must meet the following criteria:

1. Student must be enrolled in Chemistry or Physics and also taking an advanced Math class, with a B average in these classes.

2. Student must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Private School Aid Service application.

3. Student must demonstrate a serious attitude of purpose in her studies and be in good standing.

One or more recipients are selected in collaboration with the McAuley Science Department and the Financial Aid Office.

Recipients are announced in February.
