“And she stands against the lightning and the thunder.

And she shelters and protects us from above.

And she fills us with the power and the wonder of her love.

And this is why – We tell the story.”

Wishing you a joyful, peace filled Mercy Day.  May the spirit of Catherine McAuley remain alive in your heart.

September 24th is the feast day of Our Lady of Mercy, and it has always been a special celebration for the Sisters of Mercy, Saint Xavier Academy and Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School.  In 1981, under the direction of Sister Cathleen Cahill and Sister Corinne Raven, the celebration was expanded in order to broaden the understanding of the charism of our foundress, Catherine McAuley.  This special celebration includes an assembly, a remembrance gift, and the retelling of the story of Catherine McAuley and her legacy today.  Each Mercy Day celebration has a unique theme that is relevant to Catherine’s legacy.  This year’s theme is “Together in the Light of Mercy.”

Each year Mercy Day is celebrated on the Friday closest to September 24th, and the Feast Day of Our Lady of Mercy remains a day of reverence for the McAuley community.

In 1986, the first Catherine McAuley Awards were presented on Mercy Day.  These awards recognize one student and one faculty/staff member who is a reflection of the values and mission of Catherine McAuley.
