Countdown to Test Day
DayFriday, January 9: Learning Outside the Classroom
Learning isn't confined to just the classrooms in our building. At McAuley our girls have the option to attend great field trips, go on out-of-state mission trips and learn firsthand about other countries through our travel abroad program.
This year our science classes left the classroom for the day and went on a field trip to Advocate Christ Medical Center. There, they met with doctors and watched a live open heart surgery from the viewing room.
Service is an essential part of our school. Mission trips are a fun way to give back to the community and global society. Students can choose to serve close to home by traveling to different organizations such as Feed My Starving Children or local shelters. Many students take advantage of our out-of-state mission trips. Each spring, we have dedicated groups which use their break to travel to the Appalachian Mountains and Costa Rica to work with Habitat for Humanity.
Have you always wanted to travel with 30 of your best friends? Then take a moment to learn about our travel abroad program. This enrichment program puts our girls in the heart of a different country, to immerse them in a diverse new culture. Last year our girls traveled to Ireland, England, France, Spain and Italy. It addition to all of these great annual trips, next year our chorus program has been invited to travel to Rome to sing for Pope Francis.
At McAuley, make sure you take advantage of our wonderful service trips and travel abroad program!
DaysThursday, January 8: College Bound
As a freshman at McAuley, all students meet with teachers, deans and counselors to establish a relationship making the transition from grammar school to high school easier. In addition to all of these great resources for help, each student makes a strategic academic plan with our college counseling department. When students reach their final year at McAuley, they are prepared to apply to top colleges and specific university programs.
Members of the Class of 2015 already have received acceptances to the University of Notre Dame, DePaul University, George Washington University, Loyola University, Creighton University and the Illinois Institute of Technology. They have also been directly accepted into the Saint Lois University Occupational Therapy Program, Saint Xavier University Nursing Program, Purdue University Pre-pharmacy Program, Milwaukee School of Engineering Biomedical Engineering Program, Illinois State University Biological Sciences Program and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale Radiologic Sciences Program.
Freshmen walk into McAuley excited for what the next four years will bring and leave as seniors having the same excitement!
DaysWednesday, January 7: Athletics
Did you know that McAuley offers all students 13 different sports? More than 475 students take advantage of the wonderful Mighty Mac athletic program.
Being a student athlete at McAuley is a great way for freshmen to continue playing a sport they love and also a fun way to make new friends!
McAuley has top-ranked programs in volleyball, basketball, softball, soccer and water polo. These teams are known for going far into the IHSA state tournaments. Experienced coaches develop highly competitive practices and work with athletes to improve their skills and assist them in reaching their full potential for a successful year.
McAuley also has many take-all sports teams. Our cross country, swimming & diving, bowling, golf and track teams accept all students who are willing to work hard and learn something new. Our cross country team had more than 90 participants this year, our dance program is continuously growing and golf is a fun way to compete outdoors.
Whatever may interest you, there is something for everyone at McAuley!
DaysTuesday, January 6: Pick Your Own Classes!
Did you know that as a McAuley student, YOU get to choose which classes you want to take? Just like in college, you will sit down with a counselor and pick your language, PE and elective classes.
Do you enjoy your art class in grammar school? Then develop film in our dark room, create digital images in our Mac Lab and learn to paint with acrylics.
Have you always wanted to be a part of an orchestra? Then take a strings class and use the instruments in our state-of-the-art Music Room.
At McAuley, you can broaden your interests and discover something new or continue something you love!
"I wanted to take advantage of the great music department that McAuley offers, so I tried the violin.
I had never played it before. However, instead of just playing for one semester, I played for all
four years. McAuley gave me the opportunity to discover something I never knew I was passionate about."
Kayla, Class of 2014

In accordance with the Archdiocese of Chicago and the IHSA guidelines, no scholarship money - academic, athletic, leadership or otherwise - can be offered to students prior to test day. Offers of this nature not only jeopardize the school in participating in IHSA sports, but also jeopardizes the opportunity for the athlete to compete.
