McAuley's Open Houses
2006

McAuley’s Open Houses will be held on Sunday, November 5 from noon to 2:30 p.m., and Sunday, December 3 from noon to 2:30 p.m.  Elementary school girls and their families are invited to spend an afternoon at McAuley learning about the many advantages the school offers for students.  After a brief welcome session, visitors will take a tour to learn about all McAuley has to offer and meet administration, faculty, staff, students, alumnae and McAuley parents.

Young women in 7th and 8th grades interested in attending Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School can experience first hand what it is like to be a McAuley student during Shadow Days. Shadows will follow their hostess’ class schedule, meet teachers and students and even participate in class if they like. The experience provides an inside look at the many happenings at McAuley, both academic and extra-curricular. Visits may be scheduled any day of the week through December 20. Parents should register their daughter at least three days prior to a visit by completing the online form at www.mothermcauley.org or by calling the Recruitment Office at 773-881-6554.

McAuley prepares young women to live in a complex, dynamic society by teaching them to think critically, communicate effectively, respond compassionately to the needs of their community and assume roles of Christian leadership.  Learning to respond to change with critical-thinking, value-based decision-making and a zest for challenge is what “Life Prep” at McAuley is about.

Last year’s graduating class had two National Merit Finalists, five National Merit Commended Scholars, and was offered more than $13 million dollars in scholarships and grants. One hundred and eighteen students received the U.S. Presidential Academic Excellence Award, 56 students were named Illinois State Scholars, and a member of the Class of 2006 earned a perfect score of 36 on her ACT. Compared to the national average, McAuley students score nearly 100 points higher on the verbal and more than 60 points higher on the math portions of the SAT.

McAuley’s commitment to learning is shown through the school’s strong curricular and financial investments in science, technology and fine arts programs.  Technology is utilized in all curricula and a school-wide voice, video and data network infrastructure is currently in place to provide computer and Internet access in every classroom and instructional area.

At McAuley, “all girls” is the only choice.  It was the mission of Catherine McAuley to educate young women.  The single-gender environment and rigorous liberal arts curricula uniquely nurtures young women’s learning styles, leadership skills and self-confidence.  McAuley’s priorities, people, programs and community atmosphere are structured to provide a Lifetime Advantage for every student.
