SENIOR FROM McAULEY QUALIFIES

FOR NATIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

Mary Kate Boyce, a senior at Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School, has qualified for the United States Golf Association (USGA) Girls’ Junior Amateur national championship. The tournament play will be from July 17-22 at the Carmel Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Boyce, a resident of Oak Lawn, participated in the USGA Girls' Amateur Qualifier on June 19 at Royal Hawk Country Club in St. Charles. There were 15 courses around the U.S. selected as regional qualifier sites. Boyce is one of 84 young women who earned a spot at the national tournament.

Established in 1949, the U.S. Girls’ Junior tournament involves players from around the world. Golfers in the tournament must be under 18 and have a USGA Handicap Index that does not exceed 18.4. The USGA conducts 10 amateur tournaments each year in addition to the U.S. Open, The U.S. Women’s Open and the U.S. Senior Open.

Last October, Boyce earned the distinction of the first state tournament qualifier in the short, 4 year history of McAuley’s golf team.
