Best Buy and Geek Squad Host Women and Technology Events at McAuley

Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School is honored to be collaborating with Best Buy and Geek Squad to offer a number of exciting events and programs for McAuley students and parents.

On January 17, Mother McAuley announced that Best Buy and Geek Squad would sponsor an essay contest for McAuley students.  These essays will address the issues of women and technology, women and learning, and self-confidence.  The authors of the winning essays will each receive a laptop PC, and the next top ten writers will each receive an iPod or a digital camera.  All prizes have been generously donated by Best Buy and Geek Squad.

The essay winners will be announced on Wednesday, February 28 at an all-school assembly.  This assembly is the exciting kick-off to Women’s Month at McAuley. It will feature four representatives from Best Buy and Geek Squad, who will address the important issues of female leadership, women in technology, and self-confidence.  These motivational speakers include:  Beth Smits, Vice President – Services Operations, Shari Ballard, Executive Vice President - Human Capital and Leadership, Julie Gilbert, Vice President - WOLF and Entrepreneurial Enterprises, and Moira Hardek, Mission Specialist Geek Squad Corporate and McAuley Class of 1997.  Best Buy and Geek Squad will also be announcing some exciting future partnerships with Mother McAuley.

This exciting day will conclude with a panel discussion for McAuley parents, “Your Daughter and the Internet:  What Every Parent Should Know.”  Experts from Best Buy and Geek Squad will provide information and advice to parents regarding internet safety and privacy.  They will explain the latest internet trends including: YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, Xanga, Craig’s List and Friendster.  There will be ample time for parent questions.  The presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, February 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the McAuley cafeteria.  McAuley parents who attend will be eligible for a drawing for a 27” LCD television, also donated by Best Buy and Geek Squad.
