Winter Athletics are beginning to wind down, however, the Macs have experienced many successes and look to continue the momentum into the State Playoffs.
Wrestling
In its inaugural year, the wrestling program has held 12 girls through the course of the season. The team has seen immense growth since its inception. The team has placed in the top 10 in a few Invitationals. Individually, Maggie Zuber '25, Ella Quigley '28 and Gabriella Teufack Momo '27 have all placed individually at numerous meets. Additionally, Maggie Zuber '25 is currently ranked 6th in the State in her weight class. The team will close out the season with a dual against Oak Park River Forest and then head into the State Playoffs beginning January 31.
Bowling
Bowling has notched several sound victories over conference opponents, St. Laurence and St. Ignatius as well as a non-conference win against Marian Catholic. The bowling team will celebrate its three Seniors, Ellie Wood, Alila Underwood and Elizabeth Simpson, Tuesday, January 28 against rival Marist High School.
Basketball
The Varsity Basketball team has put together a great season tallying a 14-8 record thus far.
On Saturday, January 11 the entire basketball program traveled to Marist in support of an ALS Fundraiser directly benefiting the family of a McAuley Alumna and friend of many of our athletes. We are so proud of the display of compassion by our basketball program which proved that while we may be rivals on the field of play, we can always come together in times of need. On Monday, January 20 the Macs competed in Trinity High School’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day showcase where they notched an impressive win over TF North.
On Monday, January 27th the Macs will celebrate Senior Evie Skog and Senior manager Kathleen Finnin as we take on rival St. Laurence at 7:00pm.
Cheerleading
In its third year as a program McAuley, Competitive Cheer has continued to show marked growth. Recently the team placed 11th out of 24 teams at the Buffalo Grove Invite. The team also placed 10th out of 17 teams at the Lockport Invite. The Macs will be fighting for a chance to compete down state in the large school division on Saturday, February 1st at Buffalo Grove High School.
McAuley Athletics would also like to express its gratitude toward all who came out and supported the Water Polo program as they hosted a fundraiser at Culvers in Evergreen Park. It was amazing to see the McAuley community out in full force supporting our Mac Water Polo team. The booths were full of McAuley athletes, staff and families.
