In honor of Black History Month, our Black Student Union and Alumnae Office have partnered to spotlight distinguished Black alumnae.
Jazmyn C. Jefferson, a proud member of McAuley’s Class of 2010, continued her education at Denison University, earning a BA in Educational Studies and English Literature in 2014. She then pursued her MAT at the University of Chicago’s Urban Teacher Education Program (UTEP), graduating in 2016. Since then, Jazmyn has dedicated her career to education, working as a full-time educator in Chicago. Her passion for teaching is rooted in a commitment to equity and empowering students through literacy and critical thinking.
Her advice to current McAuley students: Use your voice with confidence, but remember that representation is a shared responsibility—no one person should carry the weight of being an entire community’s sole point of understanding.
