PAST EVENTS

This school year, our College Counseling and Alumnae Relations Departments collaborated on creating a new panel series for students to expose them to various careers called Finding Your Path: Alumnae Insights Panel. Each session was dedicated to a professional field and offered students an open forum to ask questions related to the career path. This year, we hosted five sessions in the series, highlighting the careers of nursing, specialized fields, engineering, business, and psychology.

Thank you to the following alumnae who returned to share their insights with our Mighty Macs.

The Pharmacist Phamily

During the Alumnae Insights Panel, two alumnae sisters, Mary O’Malley McCarthy ‘90 and Maggie Barry O’Connor ‘02, shared a fun fact that seven of their McAuley alumnae cousins from the Knightly Family, including Bridget Knightly Curran ‘01, Megan Knightly Winebrenner ‘02, Annie Knightly Polo ‘04, Jackie Knightly ‘11, and Breanne Knightly Duggan ‘14, went into the pharmacy field. They studied at a variety of schools to receive their PharmD degrees, including Midwestern University, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine, Butler University, and University of Illinois-Chicago. They also work at a variety of places including Jewel Osco Drug, Kroger/Mariano’s Pharmacy, Jesse Brown Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Walgreens Boots Alliance, Centerwell Specialty Pharmacy, and Meijer Pharmacy.

Maggie shared, “I was drawn to pharmacy at an early age, as I watched my older sister become a pharmacist, and I observed the impact that pharmacists have within our healthcare system. I chose pharmacy because I felt called to a profession where I could make an impact each day by helping patients while still maintaining a healthy work-life balance to build my own family. As I look ahead to the future, I’m excited about our profession and its evolution as innovations in technology, healthcare, pharmaceutical drugs, and vaccinations continue to occur.”
