GOODMAN THEATRE ARTS COUNCIL 

Rising senior Aine Hynes '23 was chosen for the Goodman Youth Arts Council (GYAC), an application based group of teens from the Chicago area, as a theatre ambassador. During the duration of the council, Aine met with the group every other week to discuss ways to make theater more accessible and interesting to teens around the city. Aine reminisces on her experience with GYAC,

“Our main event that we built up to was our Shadow Day. This was an event that I came up with, and we all collaborated to make it happen, culminating with the actual day in mid-June. This event involved a group of about 15 teenagers coming to the Goodman Theater and sitting in on a tech rehearsal for the musical Life After, as well as a discussion with some of the backstage professionals. I loved seeing this event come to life, especially because I had a large part in both the idea, and the creation of the actual event. We promoted the event on social media and in our schools in the months prior to the event. I sent emails out with the information to other schools and theater programs in the area as well, in order to get the event to the widest possible audience.

In addition, I was also able to see multiple shows through the program, including Life After, as well as attend their annual fundraiser, The Goodman Gala. I loved my time as a member of the Goodman Youth Arts council, especially collaborating with other teens to see an idea I created come to fruition, and I plan to participate in the council and other programs at the Goodman as a senior. This program further cemented my ambition to work in professional theater, and has opened my eyes to even more ways to do so.”
