Caring Heart Award

About the Award

The Caring Heart Award pays tribute to alumna Caroline Griffin ‘12. Caroline was a member of the McAuley Golf Team. She also was a heart transplant recipient who never let her congenital heart condition get in the way of enjoying life. While a sophomore at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, Caroline passed away as a result of ongoing heart issues. Her courage and perseverance in the face of hardship can be found in this year’s Caring Heart Award recipient, Betsy Ross Ready ‘94

Caroline’s mother, Georgina Byrnes Griffin ‘76, and sister, Courtney Griffin ‘08, will present the award at the After Par-Tee!

This year’s Caring Heart Recipient is Betsy Ross Ready, proud alum from the class of 1994. Betsy advocates for mental health in her daily life, whether it is through her volunteer work or in her career.

In 2000, Betsy lost her father to suicide. Shortly after, she joined Loving Outreach to Survivors of Suicide (LOSS), a grief support group through Catholic Charities, as a beneficiary. Throughout her bereavement journey, she became more involved with LOSS to show her gratitude and help others who have lost a loved one by suicide. She shifted to fundraising and event planning in 2012 and became the event chair in 2017, raising about $600K collectively.  In 2019, she was the emcee of LOSS for Hope 40th Anniversary at Wrigley Field which raised over $1 Million to continue the program in perpetuity.

Betsy's "Caring Heart" touches members in her community and parish, Our Lady of the Woods, where she serves as a Catechist for the religious education program and as a part of the Bereavement Ministry Team.

In 2019, Betsy lost her sister Carolyn “Peanut” Ross ‘89. Peanut was an organ donor which allowed her legacy and love to live on. The Ross and Griffin families have a strong belief in organ donation. It is fitting that Betsy is receiving this award as organ donation has closely touched the lives of the Ross and Griffin families.

Betsy holds her position as Head of Client Business at O'Keefe, Reinhard & Paul, the leading Chicago independent advertising agency. Through her professional partnership with the WNBA Chicago Sky, she is currently planning a mental health support initiative to destigmatize mental health support in women's sports.

Betsy’s perseverance and positive outlook on life embody the essence of the Caring Heart Award. She is truly deserving of this honor!

"Thank you so much for providing me with this scholarship; I am extremely grateful for your generosity. This scholarship is so meaningful to my family because I have many relatives that attended McAuley. This school has greatly impacted their lives and this scholarship is offered so that I can carry on their tradition of success at McAuley. My mom especially believes that McAuley has helped her become the woman she is today, so I am grateful to be continuing on her legacy."

"I am the third generation in my family to attend Mother McAuley, and I am looking forward to continuing that tradition through my time in high school. Thank you for donating to this scholarship, I am so blessed for the opportunity. It is important for me to attend an all-girls high school where I know I will excel in a supportive environment."
