Summer Program for Incoming Freshmen

June 18-July 19, 2018
8:10 a.m.-9:20 a.m. OR 9:30 a.m.-10:40 a.m. (If the student is not required to take both, she may opt for either time slot subject to availability.)
Introduction to Algebra I and Introduction to English I will be held four days a week over a five-week time period. Final acceptance for those who are required to complete summer school will be based on a C average. Attendance, tardiness and attitude also will be evaluated throughout the program. Registration deadline is Tuesday, May 1, 2018. Early registration is encouraged to ensure the availability of your preferred time slot.
$100 per course-if you are required or it was recommended for you to take both courses, the total fee is $200.
Introduction to Algebra I
This five-week program will prepare students for Algebra 328. Algebra 328 is a year-long course that covers solving equations, linear graphing, solving systems, evaluating expressions and exponents and polynomials. Prior to beginning this program, students must purchase the TI-84 calculator which they will use in this course as well as in all their high school courses. Students should plan to bring their calculator (with batteries and fully charged) to class each day with their notebooks and class handouts.
Introduction to English I
This five-week program will prepare students for English 144. English 144 focuses on composition, grammar, reading comprehension and vocabulary skills. In addition, the course introduces the students to major literacy genres of short story, drama, poetry, novel, essay and mythology.
