Mercy Day of Giving
On September 24, we celebrate Mercy Day - a day to recognize our foundress, Catherine McAuley, who established the first House of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland on this day in 1827. This year, our celebration here at McAuley is two-fold, as we honor 175 years of Mercy education in Chicago!
For 175 years, young women in Chicago have found the support and resources they need to succeed, have gained the confidence to go after their dreams, and have been ingrained with the knowledge that they can do anything, all because of a small group of Sisters of Mercy, who arrived in Chicago in 1846 and established St. Xavier Academy for Females. When the campus relocated to 99th Street in 1956, the school was renamed Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School.
The tradition of support and education for women continues at McAuley today, providing the lifetime advantage to current and future students. We are proud to partner with YOU, our Mighty Mac community, to raise funds in support of our mission - educating our young women to be the compassionate leaders of the next generation, helping them explore their passions, and preparing them confidently for the future.
