Parent Club Information

The Fathers' & Mothers' Clubs give of their time and talents to enthusiastically support the mission of Catherine McAuley. Membership is open to all parents and guardians of Mother McAuley students and provides wonderful opportunities to make new friends and build lasting memories of your daughter’s time at McAuley. Both clubs plan and execute projects and events which benefit the school, students and families, as well as the surrounding community. Each year, the clubs underwrite the cost of the bus transportation to safely transport our seniors and their dates to the Senior Prom! 

Both clubs meet on the following days for the 2023-2024 school year: September 14, October 12, November 9, December 8, January 14, February 8, March 14, and April 11.

WOW, it was a MIGHTY special morning on 99th Street! ABC 7's Terrell Brown sang Taylor Swift with Acapella, sipped Starbucks in the Kitty Mac Cafe, played volleyball with the State Champs, crowd-surfed with MacNation on our turf field, and officially became a Mighty Mac when he threw on the M costume himself.

Our girls truly showed ABC 7 what McAuley is all about, and we did it all before the sun came up!

Fall Athletics Tryouts

Fall tryouts will begin in early August. The number of tryout days varies. Starting dates for all fall tryouts are listed below for each sport. Students must be present for the duration of their tryouts. Practices will start the day after tryouts are concluded and will be five or six days a week. Dress for activity and bring proper equipment.

Anne Bigane Wilson '76 is the President of Bigane Paving Co. who paved the main straightaway on Columbus Drive and Pit Row for this weekend's Nascar Chicago Street Race! On Thursday, May 18, we held the Baccalaureate Mass and Awards for the Class of 2023. This class earned a record-setting, $90,192,831 in scholarship and grant dollars. We continue to be blown away by their accomplishments!

Three seniors named A. Franklin Pilchard Foundation Scholars

We are MIGHTY proud of seniors, Payton Barnes, Isabelle Leonard, and Sarah O’Brien who were awarded the A. Franklin Pilchard Foundation Scholarship this year! This is a $8,000 renewable scholarship awarded to students attending an Illinois college / university. Congratulations, Macs!

Sparkle graduated from Mother McAuley in 2018 and continued on to Washington University in St. Louis. Sparkle currently works as a Business Technology Analyst for Deloitte and she is the founder and driving force behind two game-changing initiatives, "The Onyx Incubator" and "The Onyx Label."

Sparkle is a highly motivated and visionary interdisciplinary designer, using her skills in fashion design and creative writing to address societal issues and bring about meaningful change. She has been recognized for her dedication and impact in local news and other awards.

Jessica Jones graduated from Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School in 2009. After McAuley, she attended the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 2013 with her Bachelor of Arts and her Masters in Education in 2015. She is currently working as a Senior Educator in the Education Department at the Museum of Science and Industry. In this role, Jessica provides professional development experiences for teachers and administrators throughout the Chicagoland area. She also works as adjunct faculty for the University of Notre Dame, Alliance for Catholic Education, teaching and mentoring aspiring and new classroom teachers.

Karen Spears is a lettering artist, creative director, and founder of Kareracter Creative Studio, a creative firm specializing in hand-lettering and graphic design. In 2018, she was named Emerging Designer by the Professional Association of Design in Chicago, IL. Soho House recognized her as one of Chicago's Rising Stars in 2021, and more recently, she has been featured on WGN, WGN Radio, NBC, Fox, and WTTW.

PreAP Algebra Placement Test for Current 7th Grade Students

Mother McAuley offers a PreAP Algebra class for 8th grade girls. This class is taught by a McAuley math faculty member. Students who successfully complete PreAP Algebra may have the chance to enroll in sophomore Geometry Honors their freshman year at McAuley. 

The placement test for current 7th grade girls who are interested in taking this class during their 8th grade year will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023.

On Tuesday, October 18, we welcomed six alumnae to present to students about their specialized career field in Nursing. Students heard from a Cardiac Perfusionist, Infusion Nurse, Nursing Professor, Postpartum Nurse, NICU Nurse, and Hematology/Oncology Nurse. Alumnae explained their educational/college pathway, daily job responsibilities, the positive and negative parts of their job, and how McAuley has prepared them for college and the real world.

Last Week, our Peer Ministers participated in the Cook County Indigent Burial Ceremony at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Burying the Dead is a work of Mercy and our McAuley Peer Ministers were witness to this act of Mercy in action alongside students from Br. Rice and St. Lawrence. Thank you to Fr. Larry Sullivan, Bishop Wypych and Toni Preckwinkle, Cook County Board President, for leading the services. May we pray for the souls of all who were remembered.

Mother McAuley names new Head Basketball Coach

Mother McAuley is thrilled to announce that Curtis Lewis has been named the varsity basketball coach and assistant athletic director, effective immediately. Lewis brings more than 15 years of basketball coaching experience, a winning track record at various levels of competition including the collegiate level as a graduate assistant, and first-hand knowledge of the NCAA/NAIA recruiting policies, regulations, and admissions requirements.

Best of Both Worlds Bags Tournament

On September 7, Mother McAuley and Brother Rice students participated in the Best of Both Worlds Bags Tournament on the Brother Rice football stadium. 93 team competed, and the students enjoyed food trucks and music. 

14 Students recognized by College Board

Congratulations to the 2022 College Board’s National Recognition Program awardees! 14 Mother McAuley students have been named National African American Recognition and National Hispanic Recognition Awardees! These academic honors recognize students for excelling on College Board assessments and in their classrooms!

Every year at the Fore the Macs: Playing it Forward Golf Outing, we honor an alum with the Caring Heart Award in honor of Caroline Griffin '12.

This year’s Caring Heart Recipient is Betsy Ross Ready '94. Betsy advocates for mental health in her daily life, through her work with Loving Outreach to Survivors of Suicide (LOSS), Our Lady of the Woods, and the WNBA Chicago Sky.

McAuley Celebrates Academic Honors in Class of 2022

On Sunday, May 15, Mother McAuley graduated 209 women in the graduating Class of 2022 at the Shannon Center located on the campus of Saint Xavier University. This graduating class joins more than 28,500 alumnae of Mother McAuley.

We are MIGHTY proud of senior tennis and lacrosse player Julia Ilarraza '23 who was announced as a 2022-23 All-State Academic Team Honorable Mention.

Nearly 500 nominations were received and she was one of fifty students selected by the committee! Way to go, Julia!
