2020-2021 Student Handbook
Please read the 2020-2021 student handbook for important information.
The first day of school when students must be in full uniform is Monday, August 31st, this includes eLearners. Students may only wear the kilt designated for their level, along with an embroidered polo, sweater or fleece top, and the school ID worn on a McAuley lanyard.
All sales must be completed through MBS Direct They can be contacted at bookstore.mbsdirect.net or by calling 844-603-9960. The McAuley contact person, Mrs. Lauren Dowden can be reached at email@example.com or at 773-881-6577. Please note: If books are purchased from other sources, please be sure the ISBN number is identical. If books are purchased from other sources, Mother McAuley will not be able to assist with technical issues. See our website on book purchases.
Student schedules for the 2020-2021 school year were emailed on August 10th. Please remember tuition must be current in order to receive your daughter's schedule. Questions regarding a tuition balance should be directed to Mrs. Mary Kay O'Connell at 773-881-6506.
Throughout the school year, Mother McAuley will open at 6:30 a.m. Temperature checks will be conducted upon entering the building. Students who arrive between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. will be required to remain in the student lounge until the entire school opens. While dismissal is at 1:00 p.m., the school will remain open until 5:00 p.m., unless otherwise noted. Students who are not participating in a supervised activity or sport and are awaiting a ride, may use the student lounge as a learning space until it closes at 3:00 p.m. Proper social distancing must be maintained with masks worn at all times in the lounge. Please be aware that all students must be picked up by the close of school (5:00 p.m).
Ventra cards for the CTA may be purchased in the Main Office. The cost is $2.00. They can be loaded at station vending machines, online, by phone or at more than 1000 retailers and currency exchanges. If you have aVentra Card from last year, please bring that card to the Main Office to have it reactivated for the current year.
There is a 1:16 p.m. train Metra riders may take after dismissal. To ensure students arrive in time to board the 1:16 p.m. train, they will dismiss from class five minutes early at 12:55 p.m. Once dismissed at 12:55 p.m., students should report directly to the McAuley bus located at Circle Drive.
All students must enter through the Athletic Center entrance. School staff will utilize a contactless scanner thermometer to conduct temperature checks for all students entering the building. If a student's temperature exceeds 100.4 degrees, a parent will be contacted for the student to be sent home. We strongly encourage student temperature checks at home to avoid coming to school only to be sent home in the case of an identified fever.
All students must wear a facemask that covers both their mouth and nose at all times inside of the building. McAuley designated face masks will be available for purchase or students may bring and wear their own. Individual masks must be free of any writing.
Students must follow the designated hallway patterns to accommodate social distancing.
Per ISBE guidelines, lockers will not be assigned to any students for the first quarter and likely the first semester. Students will travel to all classes with a backpack carrying all items with them. In addition to their academic items, students may carry translucent water bottles filled with water, a light snack, hand sanitizer or wipes.
Please be sure to review the iPad User Agreement for Students and Parents on the portal page with your daughter as a reminder that the use of iPads at McAuley is strictly for educational purposes. To optimize the educational benefits, McAuley will continue to monitor student usage to ensure appropriate use. As a best practice, we strongly encourage students to load only school-related apps, content and media, including pictures on their device. If you have any questions about iPads or eBooks, please contact our Instructional Specialist, Mrs. Lauren Dowden, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
